My friend Emily turned me onto Warby Parker, the makers of affordable and super stylish eyewear and sunglasses. Since I don’t personally wear glasses (but may, ahem, own 20+ pairs of sunnies) of course I’m drawn more to these babies. But, it’s worth having a look at the entire new collection — 8 optical frames and 14 sunglasses with awesome names — which is inspired by the Coney Island boardwalk and summer fun. Plus, for every pair sold, a pair is given to someone in need.
Side note: Their frames would make a great Father’s Day gift as well (think Don Draper on vacation in Hawaii).
A little fact about me: I never wear a watch. Even before iPhones became the new timepiece, I just never liked the way they felt or knocked against my desk while typing. The few times I do wear one in a year it’s always my Nixon Kensington watch, but seeing the new hues in the Kate Spade watch collection makes me think I need to get with the times (pun intended.)
One time I was crossing the street somewhere in Midtown Manhattan and this guy stopped me in the crosswalk to ask me the time. I apologetically explained that I didn’t wear a watch and he said, “Nah girl. The time to talk!” The pickup line make me laugh, especially since we were crossing a busy street.
Ever since I started doing Bar Method over two years ago, I began to step up my workout wardrobe a bit. Bar girls are always rocking the latest and greatest, but sometimes I don’t feel like spending $119 on a legging that I’m just going to sweat in. So when Ellie got in touch to let me know about their new affordabe activewear line, I was all ears.
They focus on things like stitching, seam placement (yes it can make all the difference!) and fabrics with 4-way stretch technology. You can visit their site and shop for tops and bottoms or you can become a Fit FashionistaClub member and choose any two pieces each month for just $49.95 (their selections rotates monthly).
I’ve been wearing the Black to the Future sports bra and Little Black Legging and loving them. The cuts are feminine and flattering — what more can you ask for? And, Ellie is offering you a 20% discount for being a reader of A Gifted Society.

I don’t usually wear flats unless a lot of walking is involved, but these Loeffler Randall Lulu Bow Sandals are the cutest ever. Available in nude or black suede, the gold studs give the girly shoe a bit of an edge.
I’ve been known to get in the ocean in the summer (or all the time when we’re in warm water Hawaii), but I rock a sad Billabong rash guard that has seen better days. Perfect for surfing, body boarding or just sun protection, I’m feeling these new stylish rash guards from Zimmermann, Basta, Pret-a-Surf and Cynthia Rowley.
I first saw Miu Miu’s Glitter Infused Cat Eye Sunglasses at a party for one of the brand’s artsy short films and I’m still thinking about them. They aren’t for the faint of heart — oversize, glitter and kind of kooky — but I still love them. Plus, they come in red for a Dorothy’s ruby slippers moment.
My friend Linlee turned me on to the Aussie designer Lucy Folk. Her spring/summer 2013 Tropicalismo collection (inspired by a Favela) features an eclectic mix of materials, from rose gold to crocheted cotton.
Available at TENOVERSIX in Los Angeles.
This week flew by like no other. Last night I co-taught a Digital Marketing Workshop with my pal Margaret and today I’m going with my god son, his sister and mama to see the Space Shuttle at the California Science Center.
Our little desert trip got me thinking about stylish cover ups for spring and summer. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Easter!
