Stay Cool Los Angeles

Poolside Gossip photo by Slim AaronsToday was one of the hottest days I can ever remember living in Los Angeles. Normally breezy Brentwood reached 103 degrees and there are several wildfires a few miles north of us. I saw professional movers loading their truck on Wilshire and wanted to cry for them. Since I can’t live in a pool all weekend, I will appreciate our A/C and am looking forward to celebrating my dear friend Claire’s baby shower and having our recently engaged pals AJ and Brandy over for dinner.

Have a good weekend and try to beat the heat (popsicles are a start!)

Hey Mama

One of my oldest and dearest friends is pregnant with twins and we are in the midst of planning her baby shower. I can’t believe she is about to be a mom (and I have two other friends due weeks apart). I’ve known her since I was five and a photo or video will often bring back funny memories. I was helping my parents move over the weekend and came across a handwritten note she wrote me when we were freshmen in high school. I laughed so hard I was crying and had the pleasure of reading it to her over the phone. It was the best.

I still have a big box of stuff to go through so I can’t wait to see what other treasures I will come across. Girls are so funny. I remember writing 10 notes a day with my friends, even though we would see each other in class and at lunch and then we would talk on the phone at night too. I’m glad my teen self was smart enough to stash a few written memories away.

Congratulations Ayesha and Robin!

Amazing Al Fresco Dining

Is there anything better? Last Saturday we dined in our good friend Karyn’s new backyard. She just moved a half-mile north of us and it’s so exciting having her in the neighborhood. We had an authentic Texas BBQ and I was too busy eating chips and queso, potatoes, corn on the cob and chicken skewers to take any photos. I had a bite of Tim’s rib eye and it was maybe the tastiest meat I’ve ever had.

We don’t have any outdoor space (except for a sad balcony that faces another building), which is starting to drive me crazy since we live in weather paradise most days of the year. Definitely excited to move — I’ve been in this condo for 11 years! — in the next year and make the most of outdoor entertaining.

A very Happy Birthday to Karyn who is one of the most talented, thoughtful and caring friends I have.
